Hunter Rework

In this page I attempt to rework the whole hunter class, including specializations. In addition, a new fourth specialization is added: Dark Ranger.

Hunters have access to four specializations: Beast Mastery (melee with pet), Marksmanship (ranged without pet), Spellbow (new, magical ranged without pet) and Dark Ranger (new, semi magical ranged with pet).

 


Beast Mastery

This specialization has undergone several changes:

  • Can tame any kind of pet.
  • Can dual wield or use a two-handed weapon.
  • Has access to a range of traps.
  • Resembles a fusion between Legion’s Beast Mastery and Survival.

Main Abilities

  • Kill Command: Orders your pet to attack your target, causing it to instantly deal strong Physical damage. This ability has a 20% chance to grant a charge of Mongoose Bite. 30 Focus. 8 sec CD.
  • Raptor Strike: A vicious slash that causes moderate Physical damage. Filler. Costs 25 Focus.
  • Mongoose Bite: Brutal attack that deals strong Physical damage. Each successive use of Mongoose Bite increases its damage by 60%, stacking up to 5 times. Can hold up to 5 charges. Gains a charge every 12 sec.
  • Flanking Strike: You and your pet attack at once, each causing moderate Physical damage. This ability has a 15% chance to grant a charge of Mongoose Bite. 20 Focus. 6 sec CD.
  • Dire Beast: Calls a beast that fights alongside you for a 8 sec, granting Focus over its duration. This ability has a 10% chance to grant a charge of Mongoose Bite.
  • Carve: A sweeping attack that damages all enemies in front of you, causing Physical damage. Also causes your pet’s attacks to cleave for 4 sec, causing them to deal 100% as much damage to all nearby enemies. Costs 40 Focus.
  • Bestial Wrath: Sends you and your pet into a rage, increasing all damage you both deal by 25% and your Critical Strike chance by 10%. While Bestial Wrath is active, uses of Mongoose Bite increase its remaining duration by 2 sec. Bestial Wrath’s CD is reduced by 5 sec anytime you use Flanking Strike, Dire Beast or Kill Command.
  • Steel Trap: Places a trap on your feet that arms after 2 sec. An enemy that springs the trap will take major Physical damage, be stunned for 1 sec and then be rooted in place for 3 sec. Trap will exist for 1 min. 30 sec CD.

Mastery

  • Pathfinder: Increases your pets’ damage by 15+x% and all chances your abilities have to grant a charge of Mongoose Bite by 1.0+x%. Mastery rating increases the x variables.

Utility Abilities

  • Pet Utility:
    • Call Pet: Call out one of five pets.
    • Mend/Revive Pet: Heal your pet for 25% its max health over 10 sec. If it is dead, revive it instead with a 3 sec cast.
    • Dismiss Pet: Dismiss your active pet.
    • Tame Beast: Channel for 10 sec to tame a beast to be your companion. If you lose the beast’s attention for any reason, the taming process will fail. If you do not have any empty pet slot, it will be sent to your stable.
    • Beast Lore: Displays additional information about the pet in its tooltip.
  • Traps:
    • Explosive Trap: Places a trap on your feet that arms after 2 sec. Enemies that are near the trap when it springs suffer minor Fire damage and are knocked away a short distance. Trap will exist for 1 min. 30 sec CD.
    • Snake Trap: Places a trap on your feet that arms after 2 sec. The enemy that springs the trap will release several venomous snakes to attack nearby enemies, dealing minor Nature damage and injecting them with a random variety of poisons that may cause: 25% less healing received, 25% less movement speed, 25% less casting speed and/or 25% less attack speed. These poison effects last 6 sec. Trap will exist for 1 min. 30 sec CD.
    • Freezing Trap: Places a trap on your feet that arms after 2 sec. The enemy that springs the trap will be frozen in place, preventing all action for up to 1 min. Any damage caused will break the ice. Trap will exist for 1 min. 30 sec CD.
  • Hatchet Toss: Throws an axe at a target at range, causing minor Physical damage.
  • Misdirection: Misdirects all threat you cause to the targeted party or raid member for the next 8 sec. 30 sec CD.
  • Harpoon: Hurls a harpoon at your enemy, rooting them in place for 3 sec and pulling yourself towards them. 20 sec CD.
  • Wing Clip: Reduces the target’s movement speed by 50% for 15 sec.
  • Aspect of the Cheetah: Increases your movement speed by 90% for 3 sec and then by 30% for another 9 sec.
  • Aspect of the Turtle: Deflects all direct attacks against you and reduces all damage taken by 30% for 8 sec, but you are unable to attack.
  • Muzzle: Interrupts enemy spellcasting, preventing them to cast abilities of the same school for 3 sec. 15 sec CD.
  • Feign Death: You and your pet feign death, fooling enemies into ignoring you both, lasting up to 6 min.
  • Fetch: Order your pet to fetch loot from a nearby corpse.
  • Exhilaration: Heals you for 30% your maximum health and your pet for 100%. Killing an enemy that yields honor or experience reduces its CD by 30 sec. 2 min CD.
  • Flare: Launches a flare at the selected location that reveals all stealthed enemies in the area for 20 sec.
  • Eagle Eye: Changes your viewpoint to the targeted location for 1 min. Can only be used outdoors.

Talents:

  • Level 15: Kill Command
    • No Escape: When the target your pet is attacking attempts to move, flee or run there is a 8% chance Kill Command has its CD reset and cost no Focus.
    • Go for the Throat: Kill Command now causes your pet to leap towards the target, knocking them down and increasing all damage done to them by 25% for 4 sec.
    • Sic ‘Em: Kill Command’s critical strikes have 50% chance to cause the next Kill Command to also be critical and deal 100% more damage. A Kill Command empowered by Rabies cannot trigger Rabies again.
  • Level 30: Dire Beast
    • Dire Stables: Instead of calling a wild animal, Dire Beast now calls a random pet from your stable that refunds 12 more focus over its duration and causes 20% more damage.
    • Animal Bond: Allows you to call a second permanent pet of your own and have control over its special ability. Causes both of your pets to now passively grant 1 Focus when they attack, interact with Kill Command and Flanking Strike and benefit from Bestial Wrath and Beast Cleave. However, all damage caused by both pets is reduced by 40%. Replaces Dire Beast.
    • Strength in Numbers: While Dire Beast is active, you, your pet and the beast gain 15% Haste.
  • Level 45: Mobility
    • Posthaste: Disengage also frees you from all movement impairing effects and increases your movement speed by 60% for 5 sec.
    • Tiger and Chimaera: While Disengage is on CD, the CD of Harpoon recovers twice as fast. While Harpoon is on CD, the CD of Disengage recovers twice as fast.
    • Launcher: Harpoon can now be hurled at a selected location. Enemies hit by the Harpoon are rooted for 3 sec.
  • Level 60: Raptor Strike
    • Claws of the Wild: Raptor Strike now incurs a 0.5 sec global CD, costs 10 Focus. In addition, each use of Raptor Strike has a 8% chance of causing the next Raptor Strike be replaced with Claws of the Wild, which has no cost, grants 15 Focus over 3 sec and deals 500% more damage as Nature.
    • Cobra Strikes: Raptor Strike critical hits cause your pet to deal 40% more damage as Nature with its next 2 attacks. This effect can stack.
    • Bestial Synergy: A critical Raptor Strike causes your pet’s next attack to deal 20% more damage, if it is also critical, empowers your next Raptor Strike by an additional 20%. The cycle resets when a critical hit is not achieved.
  • Level 75: Flanking Strike
    • Overwhelm:  If both your and your pet’s portion of damage is critical after using Flanking Strike, your next, Flanking Strike deals 30% more damage and guarantees a charge of Mongoose Bite.
    • Respite: If Kill Command and Dire Beast are on CD, Flanking Strike reduces the remaining CD on Kill Command and Dire Beast by 50%.
    • Rabies: Flanking Strike now has three individual chances to generate a charge of Mongoose Bite, allowing it to generate up to three charges. In addition, if all three charges are granted, the CD of Flanking Strike is reset and the next Flanking Strike costs no Focus.
  • Level 90: Bestial Wrath
    • Frenzy: While Bestial Wrath is active, abilities cost half Focus and incur half their CD.
    • Predator: Bestial Wrath increases your Critical Hit chance by an additional 15% and your Critical Damage by 50%.
    • Inner Beast: While Bestial Wrath is active, your damage is increased by 2% every time you or your pet land an attack, stacking up to 100%.
  • Level 100: Abilities
    • Stampede: Summon a herd of stampeding animals from the wilds around you that deal massive Physical damage and have a chance to knock down your enemies for 8 sec. Dire Beast, Kill Command and Flanking Strike reduce the remaining CD of Stampede by 4 sec. 3 min CD.
    • Avian Swoop: Sends forth an eagle that swoops a medium distance in front of you. Enemies caught in the eagle’s flight take massive Physical damage and are knocked down. 30 sec CD.
    • Eyes of the Beast: Temporarily mindmeld with your pet, controlling it and getting access to its abilities for 8 sec. While transformed, you can use an empowered version of Kill Command with no cost nor CD that deals 30% more damage. In addition, you take 30% less damage and move 40% faster while transformed.

 


Marksmanship

This specialization has undergone several changes:

  • Cannot use pets.
  • Uses ranged weapons.
  • Has an emphasis on sniping and sharpshooting.
  • Is an evolution of Legion’s approach.

Main Abilities

  • Steady Shot: A steady shot that causes minor damage to a target. Generates Focus. 2 sec cast.
  • Aimed Shot: An aimed shot that deals moderate damage. Always critical if it lands on a target that has 80% or more health. Renders targets vulnerable for 6 sec, increasing the damage they take from Triple Tap, Marked Shot, Powershot and Snipe by 25%. Costs 50 Focus. 2 sec cast.
  • Triple Tap: Channel for 3 sec (aiming). Reactivate this ability when prompted (when the channel spark reaches a highlighted indicator) during the channeling to fire a powerful shot that deals strong damage. The patterns by which prompts occur during the channeling change every time Triple Tap is used. 20 sec CD.
  • Marked Shot: Rapidly fires at all Vulnerable targets, dealing strong damage. Dealing damage to Vulnerable targets has a chance to activate Marked Shot.
  • Powershot: Channel for until reactivated (aiming). Reactivate this ability when prompted (when the channel spark reaches a highlighted indicator) to fire a powerful shot that deals major damage. Unlike Triple Tap, the channel spark goes back and forth until the hunter reactivates the ability. The closer the spark is to the prompt when the hunter reactivates the ability, the more damage it deals. 30 sec CD.
  • Pinning Shot: A defensive skill that roots the target for 1 sec and then slows them for 80%, decaying over 4 sec. 6 sec CD.

Mastery

  • Pathfinder: Increases your pets’ damage by 15+x% and all chances your abilities have to grant a charge of Mongoose Bite by 1.0+x%. Mastery rating increases the x variables.

Spellbow

This specialization is new, replaces Legion’s Survival and has the following features:

  • Cannot use pets.
  • Uses ranged weapons.
  • Uses an array of magical attacks.
  • Is a radicalization of pre-Legion’s Survival.

 


Dark Ranger

This specialization is new and has the following features:

  • Uses a set of predefined dark pets.
  • Uses ranged weapons and dark magic.
  • Can use a limited amount of traps and shadowy techniques.
  • Is an evolution of Legion’s approach.
